School Trips 2024

Grades 11, 12 – CAS trip, Skandagiri

The annual CAS trip for Grades 11 and 12 took students to Skandagiri, in collaboration with Inme. The trip was filled with a variety of activities that included trekking, ropes course, zipline and organising a medical camp.

It was a 6-day long excursion, where each day started with either power-up exercises, a walk through the village or a visit to the temple. Post breakfast, the students were engaged with medical camp activities, that included making posters or inviting people for the camp. Learning Kannada, the local language, was an exciting challenge that allowed students to communicate directly with the villagers, fostering deeper connections.

Physical activities such as tree jumarring, climbing a friendship ladder, rope courses, ziplining, rappelling, and trekking took students out of their comfort zones, helping them connect with nature and develop resilience. Most of these activities were team activities which helped them learn how to communicate effectively and build trust with each other.

One memorable evening involved inviting students from the local school in the village to join in on the activities. They made them do the ropes course activity and rock climbing. Later, everyone had snacks together. Students gave them stationery from the stationery drive they had carried out in school, bringing joy and excitement to the participants, which left everyone feeling deeply fulfilled.

The medical camp was also one big success. All the students were divided into different groups. Each group had a certain disease to spread awareness about. There were two doctors and one dentist. There were students assigned to check the vitals of every patient that came in. This medical camp catered to more than 100 visitors, making it a huge success.

Overall, the trip was not only an adventure but also a chance to learn and grow in a holistic manner, leaving the students with unforgettable experiences and newfound knowledge.

Grades 9, 10 – IAYP, Panchilingeswar

A crucial requirement of the lAYP framework is a qualifying journey, which the students of grade 9 and 10 embarked upon on 17th December 2024. The journey began with a six-hour bus ride to Panchalingeswar, Odisha. After freshening up, they had their first briefing session, where the students understood how to use the lAYP Online Record Books and learned about useful survival skills, such as first aid and navigation.

The following day, they were introduced to the Practice Journey. Their day commenced at 6 am and they engaged in refreshing morning exercises before breakfast. Then, at around 8:30 am, the students had a rock-climbing session at the Nilagiri Plateau. This activity proved instrumental in preparing them for the challenges of the Qualifying Journey. After returning to the campsite and a short break, they engaged in two interesting and informative sessions on tent pitching and learning the functions of their equipment.

On December 19, the students initiated their Qualifying Journey after their morning exercises. By applying their theoretical knowledge to practical use, they were able to successfully engage in rappelling and river crossing. This new experience emphasized the importance of both physical and mental alertness while trekking. Following this, they had a session on different types of maps, specifically contour maps. The evening featured a team activity where students prepared their meals over self-built fires, fostering collaboration and camaraderie.

20th December marked the end of the Qualifying Journey. After a strenuous morning exercise session, the students began their trek, which covered 1500 feet and involved slippery, steep slopes as well as dense forests. They eventually reached a famous temple, built around a stunning waterfall, worshipping Lord Shiva. Although exhausted upon their return, the students ended the evening on a joyous note, gathering around a bonfire for laughter and music.

By the 21st of December, the Qualifying Journey was officially complete. The students returned to Kolkata with a variety of new skills, unexpected friendships and endless memories.

Grade 8 – Chorao

The grade 8 batch trip was undoubtedly one-of-a-kind experience. The students embarked on a memorable kayaking adventure, where paddling through the gentle waves helped ease their nerves. A flock of dolphins greeted them as they were scavenging the waters during the wonderful boat ride in the vast seas of Goa. It was a magnificent display of nature’s marvelous showcase.

The students were also educated on the preventative measures that are being taken in regard to animals’ well-being. They learned how scientists use camera traps to study animals in their habitat, or how so-called “bat boxes” shelter bats. Such efforts underscore the need for biodiversity and delicate ecosystems’ protection.

They also got an opportunity to participate in a sandcastle building competition. Students were grouped in teams of 6 or 7 and competed against each other for building the best castle in terms of aesthetic, functionality and defense system. People were laughing and even arguing as they competed for the title of Sandcastle Champion. It was a great reminder of the importance of imagination and collaboration. Other activities included a heritage walk in the vibrant streets of Panjim, the capital city of Goa.

The combination of adventure, learning, and camaraderie made the trip a truly unforgettable experience for them.
