Grade 8 students embarked on a fascinating Colonial Heritage Walk in Kolkata’s Dalhousie area, exploring landmarks like the Currency Building, GPO, Writers’ Building, St. John’s Church, Governor’s House, etc. They observed British-era infrastructure, such as the pomerado-style footpaths and different types of pillars, including Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian, understanding their architectural and historical significance. Through this walk, students traced Kolkata’s colonial past—from the arrival of the British as traders to their eventual rule, including the pivotal Battle of Plassey between Clive and Siraj-ud-Daulah. As part of their curriculum, this experiential learning initiative deepened their grasp of history beyond textbooks.
