Robotics Bootcamp
Robotics Bootcamp and "Battle of the Charges" event
Modern High School International hosted an enriching two-week robotics bootcamp, designed to immerse students in the core aspects of robotics. Students learned a diverse range of technical skills, including the fundamentals of mechanics, electronics, and programming. Through guided lessons and practical workshops, they explored mechanical structures, understanding how gears, motors, and frames come together to form a functioning robot. They delved into electronics, working with circuits, sensors, and controllers to bring their creations to life. Additionally, they developed their programming skills, writing code to control their robots and implement wireless communication using PS controllers.
The bootcamp culminated in a thrilling event titled “Battle of the Charges,” where students put their creations to the test. Divided into two sessions—one for grades 6 and 7, and another for grades 8, 9, and 11—teams of 4-5 students competed against each other using the robot cars they had meticulously built and programmed. Each team had the opportunity to showcase their technical prowess and innovative designs in a series of challenges and races. The event was a true testament to the students’ hard work and dedication over the two weeks, highlighting their ability to integrate various components and concepts into cohesive and functional robots.
The Robotics gaming event, “Battle of the Charges,” was a thrilling culmination of our two-week robotics bootcamp. In this competition, two teams faced off in a high-stakes challenge with a timer set for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Each team’s robot was tasked with traveling to the opposite end of the arena, picking up a block marked with their team color, and returning to their own zone to drop it. While the objective seemed straightforward, the process of “picking up” the block involved a series of intricate tasks, requiring precise coordination and control. The atmosphere was electric as teams worked frantically to complete the task, with the audience cheering and applauding their efforts. The excitement and energy in the room were palpable, making the event a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Beyond the technical skills, the bootcamp was a remarkable platform for fostering personal growth and interpersonal skills. Working in teams, students learned the importance of collaboration, communication, and teamwork. They supported each other, leveraging individual strengths to achieve common goals. The shared experience of overcoming challenges and celebrating successes together strengthened their bonds of friendship and camaraderie. Through this immersive and interactive environment, students not only advanced their knowledge in robotics but also developed essential life skills that will serve them well in future endeavors.
